My Story

3 Oct 2024

A cancer diagnosis for anyone is a terrible shock, but when it comes to a small child the impact on the family is devastating!! In recent years it has been The Covid-19 Pandemic and more locally the floods, that have only added to the distress. We humans are continually facing challenges!! None bigger than a child with a cancer diagnosis!!

For this reason, I have decided (for the SEVENTH time), to participate in the Great Cycle Challenge to kick cancer's butt!! AND RIDE MY BUTT OFF!!!

It is the many posts on fb of these brave little battlers that has inspired me!

Many of you will have spotted me on the road around Kyogle already, preparing for this activity, thanks for the waves.

On the previous SIX occasions, I was absolutely blown away by your generosity during my fundraising campaign, so I am urging you to get behind me once again and make a donation, no matter how big or small, for this extremely worthy cause.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give the kids impacted by this insidious disease the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

I am extremely grateful for your support.

“Really, I would love to register my gratitude to the very generous supporters/matchers of the very committed cyclists who are pedalling like mad to support the CMRI's research into kicking cancer's butt!!! OK, so, our contributions weren't exactly matched but that's a good thing. We were all out there pedalling and canvassing like mad to raise funds to annihilate this insidious disease. Thank you so much generous supporters, you're the best!!”

“"Kyogle, meaning Big BushTurkey in Bundjalung language, is a small regional country town in Northern Rivers also known as “The Gateway to the Rainforests”. Only this morning I heard it lovingly referred to as “The Town that keeps on giving”. This is no more obvious than in the manner in which my town has dug deep in response to my GCC Campaign this year. So far I have raised a whopping $10,739, thanks recently to the overwhelming generosity of the big corporations and their DOUBLE DONATION Day. What a joy it was to see my total amount raised yesterday sky rocket. My bicycle pedals were on fire this morning!! BIG CORPORATIONS, YOU ROCK!!! I wish to thank my friends, family, acquaintances and the many strangers everywhere who have donated to my Great Cycle Challenge 2024 Campaign….but particularly, I want to acknowledge the generosity of the Kyogle Community in which I live, they just keep on giving. KYOGLE YOU ROCK TOO!"”

“I'm speechless Dave and Jo, for your ongoing support in my annual cycling campaigns, this year more than ever. I don't need to tell you why I love everything about Dave's Bakery Kyogle (I must pay a visit on Monday to the Casino Branch for coffee and cake). Every year the cycling community across the country get on their bikes and ride to fight kids' cancer; I hope I can do it for many years to come. My heart feels warm from your continued support for research into an insidious disease that changed our lives.”

“Well what can I say Francis, takes a lot to stop me from talking. I checked to see how long the double donation day lasted and it was 0001 to 2400 yesterday. I saw that your donations were made late afternoon. Keeping it safe. The contributions yesterday exceeded the $800,000 mark (how good was that) so our individual donations were matched to 91.6%. I'm in no way complaining, I doubled my goal!!! Kyogle rocks eh? Please, if you would thank the members of the Lions, Kyogle. I'm forever grateful to you as the President and members. .”

I certainly went "n-eiri leat" yesterday in this small town that we all love and doubled my goal in one day, thanks to all the very generous supporters like yourself. I've had to raise the bar. Melanie, I now have my work cut out responding to all the wonderful community members who made contributions. I actually love doing it tho'. See you soon, lunch for Wanda next Tuesday 15, bottom pub if you're back in town ! xx”

“Thank you for your lovely words VERY beautiful Amanda, and your extremely generous donation. Yes, it makes it easier when the fundraiser is for such a worthwhile cause, to put an end to childhood cancers and KICK ITS BUTT as their motto says. However, the Kyogle community, for 6 years now, has "come to the party" big time and dug deep. We are so fortunate! Thank you once again and see you on Monday morning on my way to CowFm xx”

“To President Kevin, the Executive and Committee of CowFm. I wish to register my gratitude to you all for your extremely generous contribution to my GCC campaign. My 2023 Ride Guide states that EVERY 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer around the world; over 600 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly 3 kids die from this insidious disease every week!! Kids should be living their lives, not fighting for it. As I have said, since joining CowFm my life has changed dramatically; now Cow is part of the process of changing kids' lives, and that's fabulous!”
