I'm Riding For

All The Kids With Cancer

All The Kids With Cancer

Every year we seem to lose more and more people we know to this hideous disease so this year I dedicate my ride the parents and executors of wills who, though the pain of losing their loved one, still find the strength to honour their sons, Daughters, Mums Dads, Granppas, Nanna’s, or mates wishes and let somebody live on. As a donor recipient you’ll never know much that is appreciated by the recipient and their family.

My Story

22 Oct 2024

Last year whilst I was fighting the good fight and awaiting liver transplant I decided to take part in the Great Cycle Challenge again to fight kids' cancer which is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia. We raised funds for kids who are doing tough so that one day, kids will never have to face what I was at this time.. Each year over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer and sadly, 3 die every week.

About 6 weeks ago. I was approach by the organisers of the charity to once again get involved and since I hadn’t received any transplant offers (besides from one which had be aborted due to donor quality in April) I figured I may well as it may just end up being my parting gesture to try and give back to the world via the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their wonderful research work they do in this space.

Then EVERYTHING got turned

Upside down on SEP 17 (Weeks Ago) and I got “The Call” that has hopefully saved my life. I’m very pleased to report that the transplant component of my operation has gone very well and there are currently no signs of rejection which is awesome. I will however now have a very lengthy recovery process and the doctors have advised that I am not allowed to cycle during my 1-2 month recovery period and this got me thinking about letting my team fundraising goals slip but most importantly let the funds for the kids dear Kids Research team slip. As a result I’d like to see if anybody would be up for sponsoring me as per usual with me doing the kms. I know this is a massive request but I thought it was worth asking. Appreciate any support people can give

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. Together, we can save little lives.

Finally, also please remember to consider, act and discuss the important issue of organ and tissue donation

Thanks for your support.

Cheers Dave
