My Story

4 May 2024

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. Let's kick cancer's butt.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.

Today, I woke up feeling pumped for today's ride. I had toast for breakfast at 8:30, and afterwards, I headed off to Shane's place. As I was heading to Shane's place, the CFS scan went off, I pulled over and had a look the and I realised it was only the weekly pager check. Today, I was going on a cycle on a road bike for the very first time, but the saddle height was proving a bit painful to fix. After starting our ride, a strong westly wind tried spoiling the fun as well as three or four protective magpies as we headed towards Glencoe by riding on Worrolong and Wandilo roads.

After hitting the 12km mark, Shane and I decided to ride to the 15km mark before turning around to get to 30km. The wind was now on our tail, which made the cycle much easier and more fun to travel at higher speeds. At one point, Shane and I were travelling at least 60km/h, which was very exciting.

After making it back to Shane's place for a coffee, i realised that i was only $33 off of $1,000, I put a message up on Strava asking for anyone donate to help me surpass that number. Not even 10 minutes later, I had reached $1,000. Soon after, I get a text from Charlie Hinchcliffe, one of my best friends, asking me if I want to hang out. I kindly said yes despite the exhaustion I was feeling. I farewelled the Lewis's as I wanted to get home and cleaned up before picking up Charlie. We ended up going for a drive to the bluffs and other areas around Glencoe while Charlie showed me some new music albums.

I dropped Charlie home, and I finally called it day with three chicken raps from Mum and Dad. Thanks to Mum and Dad for a delicious dinner.

  • GCC ride day 4 with Dean, VI, Shane
    4 Oct 2024

    Day 4 of the GCC

Today was a 20km MTB with Dean, VI, and Shane.

I have raised $967 with my yet another higher goal of $1,000.

I got up at 5:10 this morning 5 minutes before my alarm went off to go and have toast for breakfast. Today's music was Love Story Taylor Swift, Californiacation, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and firework, Katy Perry. What an interesting combination. I drove out to Shane's place and saw someone riding into his property and wondering who that was? But then I realised it was Dean.

I had to fix up the saddle twice, not even in the kilometre of the ride, which was super annoying. Our group took the usual 15km route, except we went to Casterton Road for a little bit before turning into what the group called the alien trail. That's because the temperature dropped dramatically, but after leaving it, the temperature was back to where it was before.

Just when I thought the craziness was over, a brid took a pine cone of a pine tree and narrowly missed the back of my head and my back wheel. I got back to Shane's place, and I finally bet him on the fence line after sneaking up on me for the last two rides we have been on that concluded the ride or did it?

After finishing the ride, I realised my watch was set to run, which I didn't realise until I saved the activity. Thankfully, I was able to change it on strava.

Wednesday the 9th of October will be Kick Cancer's Butt day. All donations will be valuable to help children do it tough.

  • Days 2 & 3
    3 Oct 2024

After camping on the 1st of October, I was keen to get out on the bike to start the challenge.

Day 2 consisted of me riding 15km and getting attacked by four different magpies. I got pecked by the second one I encountered, but thankfully, there was no blood. I also received my Jersey foe raising $500.

Day 3 was a sunny day with me completing another 10km. Only got attacked by one magpie, but thankfully, no contact was made. After riding, I went to my grandparents to make some sausagerolls.
