My Story

This is my 7th year of participating in the Great Cycle Challenge. I am hoping to be able to raise valuable funds to support the Children’s Medical Research Institute. This year supporting research into childhood cancer has taken on a very personal touch. My childhood friend from 1963 has an 11 year old grandson, Jacob, recently diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. Jacob, his Mum & Dad and 13 year old sister will soon depart for 8 weeks radiation treatment in Florida (the treatment is not available here) before returning to Australia for 6 months chemotherapy at the Children's Hospital, Randwick. Jacob should be looking forward to the summer sports season, not fighting cancer!

I have enjoyed each year’s challenge and the sore muscles have most definitely been worth it to help kids fighting childhood cancer. The promotional material I received told me that cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in Australia and every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer.

I start on Thursday 1st October. I have put a low distance goal this year as I will only be able to ride for 11 days. Bunion surgery on both feet will mean no riding from October 12th but I still hope you will consider a donation, no matter the size.

I am very aware that the cost of living crisis is making things difficult for many people and that there are many worthwhile charities seeking donations, so I realise you may not have the ability to support me, but any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. Thank you.
