Set off from Bicentennial Park with Linda to follow the same path as the last two days. Started with a headwind along King Georges Ave but that meant a good tailwind on the return trip.
Even though the weather app said no chance of rain, 10kms in it started to rain.
Rode 2.5kms in the rain and finished with 12.5km.
Linda was way in Armidale today so I did another 15km along King George Ave, back along the river and around the Gipps St Fields.
Had to share the path with the park runners for the first little bit.
The new axle on my bike made for a very smooth and quiet ride.
Also checked the odometer and it was pretty accurate according to the Bike tracking app.
Off on my own this morning. Headed off from Hopscotch, down to King George Ave and then along the river and back, around the Gipps St Fields and back to the bridge before returning to Hopscotch.
Downloaded the 'Track My Ride' app to get accurate distance.
Thought I was going to have a nice smooth ride after cleaning and servicing the bikes yesterday but alas, my back wheel was making a weird noise. At the end of the ride dropped into the Broken Spoke and talked to Martin about it. We thought it might be loose cones but when I got home and tried to tighten them, I discovered that the rear axle was broken.
Bought a new one and installed it. Will test it tomorrow.
Good news is that I discovered why the odometer has been giving strange measurements. It appears that I must have, somehow, managed to change the units to miles. Remedied that issue to and will check it against the app tomorrow, as well.
Back home and a quick 10km ride along the river, the levy bank and Scott Rd this morning.
The magpies near Jewry St were friendly but the ones on Scott Rd swooped both of us despite our efforts to talk nicely to them.
Odometer still not working correctly but mapped the ride on google maps to confirm the distance.
Need to give the bikes a good once over to get them running smooth
Since I adjusted the odometer Linda and I have both been feeling like the rides were longer than measured and speeds seemed low.
So this morning when I got up to go for a ride and it was blowing a gale I decided to double check what I had done.
I did some detailed measurements of a couple of our rides using google maps and worked out that we were doing 1.39 times the distance being shown on the odometer.
I then remeasured the wheel circumference and found it was longer than I had put into the odometer.
So I readjusted the odometer and will check it against a GPS and google maps on our next ride.
I have adjusted my ride distances on the app accordingly but have left the original ones in my blog. I wouldn't have bothered if it had been a small difference but 39% is rather substantial.
Another sunset ride with Linda this evening.
7.1kms which ups today's total to 22.7km.
Amazing the difference a day makes on a long weekend. Yesterday we were constantly ringing bells because the shared path was crowded, tonight there were very few people out.
Got up early and went for a ride on my own.
Nice cool start to the day.
Went out to Dunbogan and the back past the markets to North Haven heads.
About 8 KMs in I decided to put the odometer onto time so I wasn't concentrating on the KMs. The clock hadn't been adjusted for daylight savings so I attempted to do that as I was riding along and managed to clear my odometer (Doofus).
Ended up with another 7.6km so am calling it 15.6km (might have been a tad more).
Later ride today as it was 30 degrees earlier in the day.
Headed off from West Haven on my own and met Linda at the boat ramp (3.5 km). Then we headed up along the bike track to the heads.
Lots of dolphins were active at the heads so we stopped to watch for a while and Linda took some photos.
After that we went up to beach and rode down to the bowling club before coming back to the beach and along the path back to the car. More dolphins along the way.
11 km in all (I don't like finishing on an odd number).
A nice ride at sunset and the cool evening air.
Another 10 KMs today at Port Macquarie.
Parked in town and the first leg was out to Settlement Point and back. Had a flat tyre about 200m from the car. Turned out to be a weird hole in my rear tube right near the valve stem. The slime didn't stop it going flat and it didn't want to reinflate so had to change the tube. Quick job and back on the bike out to the path above Oxley Beach and back to maintain a 10 km daily average.
A little longer today 16.7 kms, bringing the total up to 40.2 KMs and restoring a 10 km daily average.
Parked the car at North Haven and rode out to the beach and back. Then we headed back over the bridge and out to Dunbogan again but this time pushed on to Camden head before returning.
Mostly along the river so a very pleasant ride. A couple of hills out near Camden Head but not that hard.
The legs are feeling it a bit and the butt is a bit sore. Out of practice.
