My Story
This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
In February 2019, our daughter Allegra was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 8. She then underwent 4 months of chemo and another 2 months of radiation therapy, under the care of the amazing doctors and nurses in the Michael Rice ward at the Adelaide Womens and Childrens Hospital, as well as the doctors and technicians at the new Royal Adelaide Hospital. We were also grateful for the support of our friends and family during this time.
Thankfully, the treatments worked and Allegra is cancer free and she has now been in remission for 5 years! Aside from regular scans and medical checks, she has been able to put this experience behind her and get on with being the amazing young lady that she is.
We are forever grateful that she did not become a statistic, given that cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week. Indeed, we know many other families still going through this struggle (and at times loss).
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
There is so much that I cannot do to solve the challenge of kids cancer... but I can do this... so I am riding again this year to help raise funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Together, we can save little lives.
Thanks for your support.
