Sienna

Sienna's journey started last June... On a family holiday, Sienna's mum noticed what seemed to be an innocent mosquito bite on her daughter's arm. 🦟 But the 'bite' would not go away. It became increasingly sore, itchy and would sometimes bleed. After almost a year of endless appointments, conflicting advice and hospital visits, her family were given the heart-breaking news... At just 3 years old, Sienna was diagnosed with melanoma. 💔 And the disease had already progressed to stage 3. Sienna and her family were thrown full force into the whirlwind of a childhood cancer diagnosis. Since her diagnosis in March, this brave little lady has endured: * Surgery to remove the lesion on her arm * A PET scan, a lymph node biopsy and a fine needle aspiration * Full axillary lymph node dissection surgery * Another operation on the original lesion area * Surgery to insert a port to receive treatment * Multiple infusions of immunotherapy treatment * Countless pokes, prods and procedures And so much more. Sienna will continue to receive fortnightly infusions of immunotherapy for at least 12 months. She will also need 3-monthly skin checks and regular ultrasounds. Sienna has a long road ahead of her, and her family are taking it day by day. As her mum shared with us, “We marvel at the bravery and resilience of these incredible kids, but these qualities should be forged by scraped knees on the playground, not by fighting cancer.” Kids should be living life, not fighting for it. <3
