My Story

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

I have been riding since 2017 and my grandsons also joined the Challenge, Edward from 2018-2025 (5-12), and Doug 2019-2025 (4-10) and Hugh (2-9) 2019-2026. Together we ride as team Awesome Kids4kids and have raised almost $130,000 since we started being the second highest fundraising team and individually 12th,13th,14th & 15th in 2024 and 10th & 11th (all 3 boys) in 2025. Aiming for the top 5, or maybe even TOP fundraiser this year.

Two main parts of our fundraising this year are collecting Return & Earn and standing in shopping centres with buckets. Both rely on the generosity of our local community and our support increases year after year. We also write to community groups and businesses requesting sponsorships.

I am saddened and moved when people come up to me and share some of their stories of children or grandchildren who did not survive, but then I am enlightened hearing and meeting those who did.

We are aiming for $54,100 this year. The highest ever individual was Warren in 2019 with $54,076.68, Although Hugh and I will be happy to raise that much between the two of us - We Share!

Kick Cancer's Butt Day

I must say a huge THANK YOU to the sponsors who matched our donations on Kick Cancer's Butt Day. All those 10c Return & Earn Items doubles their worth and the $ from the bucket collections did the same. I couldn't achieve the results I do without the enormous amount of support I get from my community..being saving their Return & Earn items for me (97089 so far and no doubt will reach the 100,000 original target) or dropping a few bob into my buckets when I stand at the shopping centre looking gorgeous in my Tutu and Unicorn headband and rainbow socks. THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored me online..team amassed $25,360.19 today and that was doubled. I am still aiming to meet Warren's all time highest total, although may have to try for a little higher for this year if I still want to get to Number 1. There is still heaps of time to sponsor myself and Hugh.
