My Story

6 Oct 2024

My name is Kayden, I turn 8 years old this October.

This is my 4th year riding to raise funds to fight this disease called Cancer that affects people of all ages, and people die from it. I am very sad to know kids my age fighting cancer don't get to spend their days enjoying life, pain-free. With this, I have made a pledge to use my skill to to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer. I believe Kids should be living life, not fighting for it!

I may be a small kid, but every cent I raise may help another child from this disease.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.

  • Last Weekend of October
    27 Oct 2024

The sun graced us with her beauty for the last weekend of October and this culminated in hitting our 200km ride goal!

Saturday took us 13km from Belco all the way down to Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra, to check out Scrivener Dam. Whilst downhill most of the way, there was still a significant uphill portion to conquer!

Sunday wasn't a day for rest! We added another 15km to our ride tally, making a decent run around Lake Ginninderra to run out the final weekend. Little bro was eager to join in on the action, having ditched his training wheels the week before!

  • Checking out the new Lake G paths
    24 Oct 2024

When it was announced that the newly widened pathways on the Lake G eastern shoreline was completed, that was a prompt for us to wander out and check it out.. and rack up the KMs whilst we were at it! 7km around the lake plus another 2km shadowing little brother on his ride brings us closer to reaching our 200km target! We were treated to a beautiful sunset for our troubles.

    19 October

A massive ride today! Big little man decided that as a warm up to his weekly swim class, he'd embark on a 14km ride up from home.. and then when all was said and done, a ride back home!

Added another 8km circling the bike park as he watched his little brother cut off his training wheels and took his first ride on 2 wheels! A day to remember.

In case you weren't aware, big little man is aiming to ride 200km in October to raise funds to help children with cancer. His ride today takes him over 150km, and he's within touching point of a magic $5000 raised for 2024.

  • A ride with mom, dodging maggies
    19 Oct 2024

    13 October -

Kayden is half way through the pledged distance of 200Km. Kiddo and I decided to take a different route around the lake as there were closures in some parts while they upgrade the pathways. A small section of the route requires roadside riding, but we threaded cautiously.

Partway through the ride, a rider came up with us, looking green with worry, warning us of a vicious magpie who is swooping a little up ahead, he told us to avoid if possible, and within 50mters, a walker with a dog warned us the same. She dodged it, but the riders were coping it.

Knowing it was not something avoidable, i took out the camera and rode along. I really wanted to catch the all famour swooping magpie in progress! i mean, it'll just be added adventure to my blogging! As we were riding alongside the lake, whilst holding a camera with one hand, focusing on capturing the swooping bird on the move, i was conscious not to end up in the lake! but because we were riding so slowly, the bird did not see us as a thread and therefore no swooping actually happened -.-

When the kid pledged to cover 200kms, it is just a distance, but what one forgets is that each ride we cover has to be longer, as we do not get to ride daily. With each long ride, comes the question on whether we can stop over to do something. This is where I am reminded that he is after all still a child, a minor, he gets bored on long rides, and that sometimes, we need a carrot to get him to the end.

This time around, we stopped at John Knight memorial park, where he attempted some "Parkour" and admired the ducklings that were learning to swim.

The rest of the route was uneventful, to say the least....
