Riding for the kids who shouldn’t have to fight

This October, I’m taking on the Great Cycle Challenge to ride for kids fighting cancer.

Cancer is something I know far too well. I’ve fought my own battles with recurring soft tissue sarcoma in my right leg, and in many ways, I’m still fighting them. I know how much cancer can change your life — physically, mentally and emotionally.

But I’m an adult who has had the chance to experience life, make memories and chase adventures. Children should be doing exactly that too. They should be riding bikes, playing with their friends, getting muddy, dreaming big and simply being kids — not spending their childhood fighting cancer.

Every year in Australia, more than 600 children are diagnosed with cancer, and sadly, three children die every week.

That’s why this ride means more to me than just getting on my bike and clocking up the kilometres. Every kilometre I ride is for a child and their family facing something no child should ever have to face.

I’m raising funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute to support vital research into preventing, diagnosing and treating childhood cancer, and ultimately finding better cures.
