My name is Allan Murray, and as a 76 year old cyclist I'm promising to ride 300 kilometres in the month of October as I take part in the Great Cycle Challenge which raises funds to fight against those mongrel diseases.... CHILDHOOD CANCERS.

As the legs pump, the wheels turn and the kilometres add up, a little 3 year old girl will be my inspiration.

Órla was a happy, joyful and adventurous little girl with no known illnesses.

In April 2025, while playing on a jumping castle with her big sister Clodagh, she had what appeared to be a soft fall but, unusually for Órla, she didn't bounce back up. Her newborn sister Éireann was just 17 days old at the time.

Órla was taken to the Emergency Department and initially diagnosed with a suspected concussion. Two days later, when she still wasn't herself, her parents brought her back to hospital. A CT scan revealed a tumour in her brain, and further scans showed the devastating reality — the cancer had started in her lungs and had already spread throughout her body.

Órla was diagnosed with Pleuropulmonary Blastoma (PPB), an extremely rare and aggressive childhood cancer. Within a week, her 3 cm brain tumour had almost doubled in size. She underwent life-prolonging brain surgery, lung surgery and chemotherapy. Despite everything, the cancer continued to progress aggressively.

On 14 November 2025, after seven months of treatment and her parents searching desperately for anything that might save her, the cancer ultimately took Órla's life. She was just three years old. Órla died at home, in her own bed, surrounded by the people who loved her most. Her family held her as she slipped away, knowing they would have given anything — absolutely anything — to keep their little girl here. They were left to face the unbearable reality of a lifetime without Órla.
